About this

From the Mullodi check-post the trail climbs gently for the first hour, crosses a string of streams, and then opens onto the grassland that makes this walk famous — green to every horizon from October, gold by February. The last kilometre to the summit is the only steep part. Eighteen kilometres in all, on a permit that caps the day’s numbers, so the trail never feels crowded even in season. The permit is about ₹575 a head plus a shared guide fee, booked in advance online; there are no walk-ins. Leeches after rain; wear closed shoes and salt your socks.

Guide required. You cannot do this one on your own. A registered guide is compulsory inside the national park — one per ten trekkers, arranged with the permit.

No guide on MaladTrip has listed this one yet, so it cannot be booked here. Since this one cannot be done without a guide, arrange one locally before you set out. We have described it anyway: it is worth doing, and we would rather tell you it exists than pretend it does not.
